"Confident Beginner" - June 16-17, 2012 - 9:30 am - 5:00 pm

by Loes and Theo van der Heijden

During the two days event you will follow these classes:

A Jump Start into Digitizing

In this hands-on digitizing class you will learn how to draw and reshape. How to create beautiful patterns, fill shapes with motifs, cross hatching, wave fills, autostipple, creative background fillers.

Use those fills inside or around a design, or turn shapes into applique.

Trace a sketch

If you're like me, you will have lots and lots of little pieces of paper with sketches of designs. Learn how to trace those sketches in Art and Stitch and turn them into beautiful quilt patterns.

What's new in the latest version of Art and Stitch

A quick overview to get you started with the wonderful new functions.

Playtime! Power Copy EE

In this class you will see the wealth of posssibilities with the new Power Copy EE function: EE stands for "Entry Exit" point. This Power Copy function makes it a breeze to create borders, P2P patterns, and to play with half square triangle designs.

Help... I can't draw!

You can't draw a straight line? No worries! In this hands-on computer class we will show you how to make beautiful patterns with Art and Stitch, on the basis of just doodles, even if you really can't draw! You will also learn how to use your customer's doodles and turn those into patterns so that your customer's top is quilted on the basis of her own design. She will be so proud and will be back with her next top before you know it.

I see... I see continuous lines

You don't want starts and stops, just continuous lines. In this class you will learn how to make patterns continuous. Remember how you tried to draw a house on paper without lifting the pen off the paper when you were a child? Keep that in mind and start practicing.

With Flying Feathers

In this hands-on computer class you will learn how to digitize traditional feather designs in Art and Stitch.

You will learn how to draw feathers with the semi-automatic 3pt arc tool, how to create feather designs with the Magic Circle and playing with Transform Artwork > Unite. We will explore many different feather styles.

Art and Stitch Retreat "KNX JA 18"

Advanced Feather Designing

Full day class June 18, 2012 plus FREE evening class on June 17

by Judy Allen and Joanne Flood

Feather Designing and Digitizing with Judy Allen and Joanne Flood.
Judy Allen, pattern designer, author, traveling teacher and longarm educator along with twin sister Joanne Flood, certified teachers for Art and Stitch will offer a one day feather designing and digitising class.

As feather pattern creators, Judy and Joanne delight in offering this advanced class in creating a beautiful array of designs, starting with the feather options and a brief demonstration of how they create the feather shapes and their use of the power copy button.

Next the students will be creating an undulating, mirror image design, turning that into a border corner design with their bridge work techniques and then adding Judy's original curved cross hatching methods that add a dimensional curved element to these designs.

Frame work comes next with Judy and Joanne's simple but oh so helpful design addition to "dressing up" those wonderful feather designs with an array of simple but effective lines and circles to add to a border arrangement.

Next we will move onto a spactacular heart design appropriate for repeats in any area and then Judy will introduce her crossover circle border techniques that are easy to accomplish and provide a wonderful space for any type of quilt design including feathers and the curve cross hatching lines.

Last but certainly not least is Joanne's technique for turning any feather design into three other fantastic feather looks that you won't want to miss, it will change the way you look at feather designing. This is a jam packed class that will motivate and move you forward toward even more spactacular quilts

On Sunday June 17, prior to this class Judy and Joanne will  teach feather designing on paper which will help you with the digitizing process in the class on Monday. The evening session will take 2 hours and is FREE for students in the Monday class.

"QUICK START SESSION"

June 19, 2012 - 8:00 - 9:00 am

by Loes and Theo van der Heijden

For those who did not follow the first Retreat on June 16 and 17

Prior to the start of Retreat "KNX LT1920", we will show you the tools and buttons of Art and Stitch and let you draw some easy shapes with the Curve and 3pt Arc tool. We will let you copy and paste, show how to save for your quilt system and let you use some of the fun tools.

This Quick Start Session will definitely not replace the first two days of course (that would be a major time saver) but it will get you up to speed so that you can follow all exercises of the Retreat of June 19 and 20 even if you did not follow the first Retreat.

Important: You MUST have seen all tutorial movies on this website and you MUST have done the exercises in the first chapter of the User Guide to get all out of this Quick Start Session and the Retreat of June 19 and 20.

During the two days KNX LT1920 event you will follow these classes:

A Jump Start into Advanced Digitizing

In this hands-on digitizing class we will start drawing and tracing, but soon we will do some serious reshaping "Reshape to perfection". You will learn how to create beautiful patterns and use the various fill options in Art and Stitch.

What's new in the latest version of Art and Stitch

A quick overview to get you started with the wonderful new functions.

String of Pearls

In this class you will learn how to create a string of pearls in Art and Stitch. This type of pattern is just beautiful as a spine in feather designs, as a "sashing" between larger patterns or simply as part of a design. The possibilities are endless.

Creating interlocking patterns

Learn how to use the Repeat tool and the setting "Offset rows". Learn how to connect the rows in the desired stitching order.

Doodle away!

In this hands-on computer class we will show you how to make beautiful patterns with Art and Stitch, on the basis of doodles. We won't settle for the simple doodles: we want beautiful patterns. Start collecting photos as inspiration! Look into "zentangle-style" doodles. Many of those will be great to use as background fillers.

Advanced editing

Editing in detail, perfecting designs, backtracking, using the shortcuts, getting the perfect design quality that you expect from Art and Stitch. Learn how to fix the stitch direction in existing patterns. Learn how to make patterns repeatable. Learn how to make patterns "flippable".

Questions and Answers

Prepare for this class: bring your list of questions - we will probably have the answers.
